Grieving the loss of your family

When separation or eventually divorce present in your life it’s like a death. The grieving process is the same with five stages. These may unfold in any order, for any length of time and sometimes repeat. Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance. Recognizing this is natural and having compassion for yourself is essential to moving through these stages. I found simply being aware was really helpful when I went through my divorce.

Fantasy and our expectations are also at play. Most of us wish and dream of a loving strong partner and parenting together the healthy children we love. Building a life and a home that will take us through into older age. The statistics show this is unlikely to be sustained by over 60% of couples but it is still devastating when it happens and our dreams crumble.

Each step in this transition brings up new aspects of the loss. Daily life changes as you navigate as a single parent. Going out socially for the first time single, establishing new rules for your home and especially Holidays that need to be navigated to include different households. Committing to take the high road and to model for your children,  kind and mature behavior and communication is hard but it is a must! No matter what your ex does in return….

This ia all new challenging territory. If you need help, support and a strategy please book a Breakthrough Coaching Call with me. I have a few spaces at the beginning of next week.
